First, because it’s actually finished, I give you The Bag (lots more over on Flickr)
Hanging, appropriately, from the wool cabinet. I knit this last Friday while feeling riled and unable to concentrate on anything else. The wool came to me from my Aunt Dot. About 14 oz. of chunky single-ply handspun that feels like alpaca. I knit it up loosely on sz. 10 needles and felted the hell out of it.
Honestly, I thought it would shrink down and firm up a lot more, but after 5 trips through the hot wash… it seems we have reached the limit of this yarn’s feltability. is feltability a word? After it dried for several days I sewed together the lining and put it all together. Tada! (This is my first bag, and my first felting, let me celebrate a little.)
I’m very pleased with how roomy it is, and how the lining turned out. This fabric has been in my stash for 2 years now, always too lovely to use. I only had 3 half fat quarters so the lining ended up being several pieces, but that’s alright since just looking at that lovely fabric makes me happy.
Anywho. I’ve got too many projects to put them all in the bag at once, but they each got to try the new ride. Jaywalker and Spiral Boot Sock thought it was a little big. Twin Fishtrap and Wheat Ear Cable Yoke thought it was just about right.
I just started the Wheat Ear Cable Yoke (from the cover of the Summer IK) last night. I feel so weak for starting another project! Knitting is quickly becoming my disease of choice. Anyhow again, I am changing the gauge way down to 7 sts an inch and knitting it totally in the round. With 236 sts around the chest- on sz. 2 needles- something tells me I will be knitting this sweater for a very long time. But let’s ignore my weakness and knitterly need to cast on and think instead about what I should be doing….
I need to be working on that other Fishtrap for the second twin- first one is here. Their birthday was yesterday, thank goodness the party is still a week away. I’m such a procrastinator. I’ll probably work on other things all week then knit madly on that stupid second sweater through the wee hours before the party. I’m pretty stupid like that- deadlines just breed denial. Ok. I’m only 3.5 inches from the sleeve join, its not so bad. Now I’m going to find the cookies, plug in Pride and Prejudice and get knitting. Cheers!
